Do you own a vehicle that for one reason or another you don't use anymore? Maybe it's been collecting dust ever since you got your new car. Maybe the starter went out and you just never got around to fixing it. Perhaps you haven't got around to selling it- voiding the headache of posting an ad, playing phone tag, or dealing with fickle buyers.
Well, we're here to tell you that you should consider donating your vehicle to a good cause that can put your vehicle to good use. We'll be looking at 5 awesome reasons you should consider donating your unused or unwanted vehicle.
1. Give to a charitable cause
The best reason to donate a vehicle is that it will benefit a worthy cause or nonprofit. That clunker that gives you stress can be spun into a great giving opportunity. A donated vehicle will be fixed up and sold to someone who needs an affordable car or is looking to buy their teenager’s first car. What's that saying? One person's trash is another person's treasure. That holds true, especially in the case of a donated car. The best part about donating a car is that the proceeds from the sold car are donated to a worthy cause.
2. Get a tax deduction
Just like any donation made to a 501(3)(c) nonprofit organization, donating a vehicle allows for tax deductions. If you decide to donate your car, make sure to keep good records of your transaction for tax purposes. For more information about donating a car read the IRS publication, A Donor's Guide to Vehicle Donation.
3. Get that unwanted car out of your sight
If you have an unwanted car then we know it's just sitting in your driveway taking up space. Well if you donate it, you’ll no longer see that vehicle taking up space on your property or in your life. Most nonprofits to whom you donate your car will haul your unwanted vehicle away. This is the case with Mission Cars who will pick up the vehicle for you, no hassle and no worries.
4. No hassle with selling
Let’s be honest, selling a vehicle can be a hassle. You have to fix up the car, making sure registration and smog are up to date. And don’t forget the actual selling process: putting out an ad, dealing with phone calls and texts, meeting a potential buyer, and haggling a price. When you donate the vehicle, you don’t have to deal with this headache. You donate the vehicle and the organization will take care of the rest.
5. You'll feel great!
Have you ever had a hard time letting go of something but get relief when you realize it can go to a better home, a home where it will be used? This is a wonderful feeling, knowing that someone else can actually benefit from something you no longer have a use for.
Giving back to a good cause or local nonprofit is a gratifying feeling. It will not only make you happy, but you will also feel more satisfied in life, it’ll induce positive feelings and even reduce depression.
About Son Care Foundation & Mission Cars
Son Care Foundation is a nonprofit that has several programs such as Mission Cars and New Life K9s Service Dogs. Mission Cars began as a way to financially support New Life K9s' mission of saving lives through the healing power of the human-canine bond. Soon after, Mission Cars discovered that a lot of San Luis Obispo County nonprofits were turning away car donations due to organizations not being able to fix the cars themselves. Because of this, Mission Cars now has several other nonprofit partners all around San Luis Obispo County for whom they sell donated cars for.

Why Mission Cars?
Mission Cars makes it easy for people to donate their vehicles and even easier for nonprofits to accept donated vehicles. All you have to do is submit a donation form online and they’ll pick up your vehicle, fix it up, and sell it. Once the vehicle sells, Mission Cars will provide you with a receipt to use to get a tax deduction. Did we mention the paperwork? No need to worry about that, Mission Cars takes care of all the paperwork for you!
Where do the proceeds go?
One hundred percent of the proceeds directly benefit New Life K9s, to support their mission of providing free service dogs to veterans and first responders with PTSD. If Mission Cars sells a car for another San Luis Obispo County nonprofit the proceeds are split 50/50 with New Life K9s.
